I love that amongst all the expensive classics and exotics there’s just a really nice Passat wagon.
Also those M/// stripes make me randy.

You know how I know that the M1 isn’t real?
It's not sitting on a lift in a garage.

Well it’s an R36, it’s the fast one.
The M is totally in the right color(s).

Probably towed. Probably all his rich ass friends showed up to park around his broken M1 and make him feel part of something real

Imagine seeing an M1 in St Kilda! I’d only ever seen one in a museum in Germany, never locally

I can’t afford a BMW M1, obviously.
But this does kind of make me want to put stripes on a white Fiero… maybe Martini stripes, or something other than BMW trademark colors, obviously.
A Formula/base front fascia and side skirt delete on a GT Fiero, or a GT aft section on a Formula... could look similar on a quick glance from 30 feet. ;-)
Maybe a conversion to DMC12-like rear louvered engine cover...
Won’t be an M1 ever... but could be interesting.

Holden Rodeo. It’s one of those smaller pickups America doesn’t get, due to the chicken tax and the fact that Americans deem anything that can’t tow an airplane as being not only insufficient but an attack on their masculinity .
Check out the list of names and marques it was sold under!

Haha, the world is your oyster. Gotta be careful though. You can do certain things to an MR2 that will label it a “poor man’s Ferrari”. As if that’s not a good thing, but I don’t need the stigma.

348 design concepts are pretty clear in SW20 MR2, just STOCK.
[rant mode engage ]
I always hated the “Poor Man’s ___” moniker. sometimes benign, but so easily nudged into insulting.
It arises from a premise that people who work for a real wage and aren’t of excessive means are automatically POOR, which in that context is a personal value judgement, not an economic observation, and as such, those poor people should be diminished and devalued from enjoying anything that the upper crust get to enjoy.
How condescending is that?
I don’t go around calling a Ferrari 355 a rich-man’s ultra-fancy-pants pretentious MR2.
Yeah, we get it... rich people get to buy fancy things. Not news.
Since when should people who earn a paycheck NOT have access to affordable things that in any way resemble fancy things?
This is why working people can’t have nice things... and why there isn’t an affordable mid-engine car anymore, like MR2 or Fiero, 914, X-1/9, or whatever... despite the fact that it should be more feasible to create something like that than ever, technologically.
Used Porsche Boxsters/Caymans are just that, USED... the new ones certainly aren’t exactly affordable to the mainstream... and the supply of used cars isn’t tied to current demand, but past demand, and the supply of good examples is not inexhaustible.
Yet no new car caters to that segment and price point, so used or even now-classic cars are the only mid-engine affordable option.
Sorry for the rant, but stigma bullcrap from the ignorant section of the peanut gallery, which makes people like you or me second guess whether we should do or have something, is not a good thing.
The it affects people who want to buy and drive a 986 Boxster, or a Miata, or other such cars... cheap... poor-man’s car... hairdresser’s car... most of us being enthusiasts overcome the stigma , but ideally it shouldn’t have to be a noticeable factor, and others who are less dedicated to car culture are going to be turned away by it.
...how ‘bout they shuttie, and mind their business, and let the rest of us live.
R idiculing people’s choice to enjoy something perfectly reasonable is itself r idiculous and should be the reasonably ridiculed behavior.

You’re right of course. I think even if you can get past the class based discrimination, who cares if it’s a poor man’s Ferrari? The 348 is a poor man’s Testarossa which is a poor man’s F40. There’s always a more expensive car. A Ferrari-ish car that’s almost as fast for a quarter of the price ( and twice the reliability) isn’t something to discriminate over. It’s a revelation. It’s taking a good idea and making it available to everyone . And I’d sooner own a poor man’s Ferrari than literally any sedan or hatchback for the same price.

I like Ferraris, but more importantly, I want a car that I can actually see, experience, drive, and enjoy.
I was completely surprised by the Roma introduction... I have not been a huge fan of 21st century art-school Ferrari design... too much over-styling as if different=better, therefore more different = more better.
Aston started doing that with the new Vantage and DB11 now, too, after decades of sticking to being objectively gorgeous.
Now Ferrari turns the table, and comes out with Roma that looks better inside and out.... and as cool as mid-engine Ferraris are, including the new SP90, the Roma seems more sublime and real-world enjoyable.
But I can’t in any realm afford a quarter of a million dollars. I can’t even afford the Jag F-type Coupe which is probably as far down market as style like this goes.
If someone would replicate even HALF this much style at 15% of the price... I would save and prepare to go find a dealer to take my money for a “poor man’s Ferrari Roma.”
But why can’t that just be called the new mainstream GT coupe class leader? ;-)
Imagine if Mustang or Nissan Z looked half as gorgeous and smooth as that, inside and out, even if the materials weren’t as luxurious, and they had half the power output... I hear Genesis is working on a new coupe, now that they are their own stand-alone brand...

And as we know, the people who can afford them don’t actually use them. More often than not, even the mid-engined cars are used for parading around on high street than anything resembling sporty driving.
It’s all wank. Bring on a modern Dino. At like 30k. Haha

Dino, even at it’s most depreciated, was never equivalent to $ 30K :-)
That was indeed SW20 MR2... and I am absolutely in favor of bringing a modern version of that back. Or Fiero.
Space frame construction should be considered again. Like unibody, minus the exposed body panel bits... which are removeable and replaceable, and theoretically upgradeable.
